Green Wave News · Four EHS Pole Vaulters headed to State Qualifier

Wil Liddle, Taylor Boyles, Taylor Fox and Leanne Berthrong will represent Easley High School in this Saturday’s 5A State Qualifying meet at Spring Valley High School in Columbia. Saturday’s trip to the Qualifier will be the first for sophomores Liddle and Berthrong. Wil’s 6th place finish in last week’s Region 1 5A meet earned him the right to compete for one of the 8 spots to advance from the Qualifier to the May 11th 5A State Track Meet. Leanne, in her first year pole vaulting, finished 4th in last week’s region meet. She is the first EHS female vaulter to advance to the State Qualifier since school record holder Madison Stewart did in 2014.
This will be EHS junior Taylor Fox’s second trip to the Qualifier having been last year after finishing as Region 1 runner up as he did this year. In last week’s Region 1 meet at TL Hanna, Fox PR’d at 14’6 and goes into the Qualifier as the third highest seeded vaulter.
Taylor Boyles, having waited over 3 1\2 hours to vault in last week’s Region meet, stopped vaulting when he cleared 15’ and won his 4th straight Region 1 Championship. He enters this year’s state qualifier as the second seeded vaulter having advanced to the state finals the past two years. Boyles finished 7th in the state in 2017. In last year’s state meet he finished 2nd and was named All State.
The three EHS vaulters will be among the best 40 pole vaulters in the state vying for the 8 spots in the state meet. Leanne enters the competition ranked 16th out of the 38 vaulters in the girl’s division.
