Green Wave News · Boyles and Fox to compete in State Track Meet

As they have done for the last four years Taylor Fox and Taylor Boyles will be traveling together competing in the track and field event of pole vaulting this Saturday. Over the past four seasons, beginning with Fox’s eight grade year, their travels have taken them up and down the eastern coast of the United States, from Rhode Island to Florida. They have competed together not only during the EHS outdoor season but also in Junior Olympics over the summer and select indoor meets during the winter months. Since Boyles is a senior, Saturday’s SCHSL State Championships will be their final meet together as EHS teammates.
For the State Meet they will return to Spring Valley High School in Columbia where last Saturday they both competed in the State Qualifier. In the weather shortened Qualifier Fox made it to the State Meet with a vault of 13’6”. Boyles who entered the event when the bar reached 14’6” cleared it and 15’ on his first attempt and his only jumps before lightning ended the competition. Since the top 8 athletes in the event had been determined the competition was stopped and those eight will return for this Saturday’s finals. For Boyles this is his third trip to the state next. Last year he finished as state runner up and in 2017 he finished 7th. Fox is making his first trip to the finals. While the two have stood together on podiums many times over the last four years they look forward to standing together on the podium one last time this Saturday. Both athletes have consistently been ranked in the top four in the state in all classifications in their event.
The pole vault competition will begin for the EHS pair at 12:45pm Saturday. The entire State Track meet will stream live on SCRUNNER.com.
