Taylor Fox sets Pole Vault Record
In the 2020 Chick-Fil-A Games held at Eastside High School this past Saturday, March 14th, Easley High School senior Taylor Fox shattered the meet record in the pole vault by a foot, while clearing a new personal best of 15 feet. Fox set the record on his first attempt at the record bar.
Entering the competition with only one other vaulter remaining from the field of 29 high school pole vaulters, Fox cleared his starting height of 13’6” on his first attempt as he did his second height of 14’. He didn’t miss until his first jump at 14’6”. He won the competition, though, when he cleared on his second attempt and the remaining vaulter, Adam Berry from Mauldin HS missed on all three of his attempts.
Having won the event, Fox chose to attempt a personal record of 15’ as his next bar, clearing it on his first attempt. With the 15’ bar he had bettered the meet record 14’6” with which he had won the competition.
Taylor Fox’s 15’ vault betters the meet record by a foot set in 2017 by Eastside HS grad and current Citadel vaulter, Sam Blumer and equaled in 2018 by Fox’s former teammate and current Clemson vaulter, Taylor Boyles.
The Chick-Fil-A Games record vault has Fox ranked 2nd among pole vaulters in all classifications across the state of South Carolina.
